Student stories: experiences that inspire

 WINESIONARIES 2022-2024

Mattia Oberto

Meet Mattia Oberto,

From the scenic vineyards of Langhe, Mattia's wine journey began in his childhood. A true family affair, he was hands-on in the vineyards and winery from a young age and welcoming guests with warmth. Eventually, and during the quiet of the Covid Pandemic, he used the opportunity to earn his degree in Viticulture and Enology from the University of Torino.

An adventurer, whether snowboarding, climbing, surfing, or hiking, Mattia is always on the move. He's well known for his 'yes' attitude, as he's always ready for the next challenge. And of course, he's extremely passionate about wine and food.

During his Wintour experience, Mattia was also a willing tutor to anyone needing help in enology subjects. To make his wine business repertory 360º, he interned with the wine tourism team at the prestigious Château Dauzac in Bordeaux, harvested at the family-run Domaine Saparale in Corsica, and moved continents to help with the marketing and launch of a new wine collection at Simonsig Wine Estate in South Africa.

With harvest seasons across Italy, Australia, New Zealand, and France under his belt, Mattia's insatiable curiosity is now steering him towards Napa Valley, ready to expand his global wine expertise.
The future is indeed bright for Mattia!

Martina Ramirez

Meet Martina Ramirez, known as Martu, our Argentinian girl.

Martu is described as a hard worker who loves exploring and taking on new challenges. Growing up in a family with the motto "Vinos & Motores" (Wines & Engines), she started her journey in the industry by driving trucks, fixing things, and immersing herself in the winemaking process.

Martu's wine adventure began at a wine distribution center, but it was during a break that she discovered her true passion for working among the vines. This passion has taken her across countries, allowing her to experience diverse wine cultures.

She joined Wintour to pursue this newfound passion, planning to be as dynamic as possible and letting the wine guide her future, as it always surprises her.

This is just the beginning. She is currently doing her last internship at Chateau Bonalgue and is eager to see where her next steps in the wine world will take her.

Shalini Singh

Meet Shalini Singh, a wine communicator from India, who is currently navigating the wonderful wines of Europe as part of Wintour 7.0.

With a background in drinking (that's how she often introduces herself to new professors and colleagues), Shalini's approach to learning about wine tourism is simple: drink and travel!

From working in marketing in India and the US, and grape harvests in Greece to developing digital strategies for a winery in Luxembourg, her journey spans continents and cultures, blending her love for wine with a globe-trotting spirit.

A former James Beard Scholar and Le Cordon Bleu, London graduate, Shalini effortlessly transitioned from a VP in International Business to her true calling-uncovering the joy of wines and wine regions. When not attending Wintour classes classes, she creates engaging content, from her experiences, on the Instagram page.

After the master's she plans to use her marketing skills and wine knowledge to help wine lovers explore wine regions around the globe through wine tastings, wine tours, or through the virtual storytelling world.
