Universitat Rovira i Virgili

Universitat Rovira i Virgili was created in 1991, hosts over 14,000 students (13% international), and plays a leading role in research and regional development, especially in the areas that are closely linked to the economic strengths of the region: chemistry and energy, nutrition and health, tourism, heritage and culture, and oenology.

With a publication record that is the fourth highest in Spain, URV provides the region with a knowledge structure that is internationally visible and that achieves international recognition. The Spanish Ministry of Education has recognised URV and its surroundings as a Campus of International Excellence, thanks to a wide-ranging and well-defined relationship between the university, business, and society. According to the most recent university rankings (2022-2023), URV is among the Top 170 World Young universities and among the Top 800 world universities (THE Rankings 2022-23). As regards its impact, URV has 5 scores under the Top 90 world universities in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (Quality Education; Gender Equality; Reduced inequalities; Climate Action; Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions). It ranks under the Top 700 world universities in the Shangai Ranking, being Food Science & Technology (Top 100) and Hospitality and Tourism Management (Top 200) among the best ranked subjects.

WINTOUR teaching at URV is offered by the Faculty of Oenology (Tarragona) and the Faculty of Tourism and Geography (Vila-seca). Professors of both faculties have been leading for many years national and international research projects related to wine production and tourism, hand in hand with companies developing their activity in both sectors. Finally, the URV is part of the Aurora European Universities Alliance (co-funded by the Eramus+ program), a consortium of nine research intensive universities deeply committed to the social impact of their activities aiming to provide to the diverse student population with the skills and mindset needed to contribute to addressing societal challenges as social entrepreneurs and innovators.
